News Dubois Cup 2013

Doyle Sails was a proud sponsor of the 2013 Dubois Cup (1-3 June), now in its third edition. As a supplier to a significant percentage of the Dubois fleet, Doyle’s collaboration with Dubois is longstanding. With 15 motor and sail yachts in attendance, including Doyle yachts Bliss, Prana and Salperton, it was the biggest fleet in the regatta’s history. There was also a good representation of the Doyle team out on the water, with Matt Bridge (NZ) and Mario Giattino (Italy) racing on Bliss, Quinny Houry (Palma) on Salperton, and Phill Maxwell (Palma) on Prana.

“It was a fantastic event, the best Dubois Cup yet,” said Matt. “We had good breeze and the courses were great. Results wise, on the water we [Bliss] we were always in the hunt and up with the leaders, although the ratings didn’t work in our favour. On the first day we were unlucky and found the hole that everyone else managed to sail around. Bliss was quick and performed really well, reaching 16.8knots downwind, and her new A2 was a glamour.”

Winds of up to 40knots on day one caused Salperton to retire from the first race, but they went on to take an admirable first place on day two. “We saw the wind speeds climbing over 30 knots, and it looked as though they’d keep increasing, so we made the call to stay safe and we retired,” said Barry Houghton, owner of Salperton. “I’ve had an incident in the past and I simply won’t risk the safety of my crew,” he continued.
