The 2017 Toyota Optimist Nationals hosted by Napier Sailing Club brought out 175 sailors during Easter weekend. Although the weather was less than ideal with aftermaths of Cyclone Cook making for shifty winds and torrential rains, the regatta carried on and spirits stayed up.

A few of the elite class races were cancelled on race day four due to south-westerly winds making it difficult to set a proper course. However, the Doyle sponsored Green Fleet were able to sail through despite volatile weather and reports of an earthquake. Kohimarama Yachting Club's Sean Kensington took the overall lead with 10 nett points from five rounds.

On behalf of everyone at Doyle Sails New Zealand we couldn't have been more proud to sponsor the lean, mean, Green Fleet at this year's Optimist Nationals. Also, a big thank you to Napier Sailing Club for involving us and to Andrew Brown for representing Doyle Sails One Design at this special event.
