Doyle Sails New Zealand’s Mike Sanderson began his own yachting career in sailmaking, before going on to become the youngest ever winner of the Volvo Ocean Race. As a Doyle apprentice, you’ll be surrounded by an experienced team known for breaking the boundaries of what’s possible in the sailing industry. 

Doyle Sails New Zealand is a world-leading sailmaker, renowned for bringing new fibres to the marine industry, which are snapped up by leading superyachts and racing yachts eager for their performance enhancing attributes.



The Auckland loft is the biggest in the southern hemisphere at 7000sqm and its clients include most of New Zealand’s top racing yachts.

The Doyle Sails New Zealand team can often be seen racing on the fastest race boats in town with senior members in demand globally, competing on yachts at Grand Prix level in regattas around the world.

Marine trimmer apprentice 

Doyle Sails New Zealand is looking for a new apprentice marine trimmer to join the company's busy and expanding marine trimming department. Experience is not necessary as training will be provided and an NZQA qualification is achievable after completion of the course.

This role will suit a candidate who’s ready to take on a position they can turn into a career.

The work is very varied, making covers and upholstery for vessels of all sizes and types, from dinghy covers, spray dodgers and sail covers to the world’s biggest superyacht interiors encompassing seating cushions, beds, floor covers, outdoor awnings and drop clears, among other things. You will be part of a small team of experienced people who produce a very high-quality, detailed product, within an industry-leading company.

This role will suit a fit and strong person with a New Zealand working visa and drivers licence.

The position is based in Rosebank Road, Avondale, and will also include time working on vessels in the marinas around the Auckland area. This is a fulltime, permanent position. Pay is commensurate with an apprentice’s role.

Assistant Machine Operator
Doyle Sails New Zealand is looking for an energetic person to join our team as a plotter machine operator and assist in the plot room. Computer skills would be an advantage however training will be provided.

Based in Auckland, Doyle’s 7000sqm loft is the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere. Our clients include most of New Zealand’s top racing yachts and our team regularly sail on the best race boats in town. Senior members of the team compete on yachts at Grand Prix level all around the globe.

Experienced Sailmakers

Doyle Sails New Zealand is always looking for experienced sailmakers to join our team. We require sailmakers with a minimum of two years experience with references.
